In preparation for public comment hearings on Xcel Energy's Mountain Energy Project, the Office of the Utility Consumer Advocate (UCA) is visiting Summit County to educate the community about the operations of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC), the regulatory process, and how they can voice their concerns and perspectives.
UCA Community Presentation & Q&A
The UCA will host a community presentation and Q&A session to explain:
- The role of the Public Utilities Commission
- How regulatory decisions are made
- The impact of the Mountain Energy Project
- How to deliver significant and impactful public testimony
This is a valuable opportunity for residents to learn how to participate in the utility regulatory process and ensure their concerns and perspectives are heard by the PUC.
Public Input Needed – Proceeding 25A-0044EG
PUC proceeding 25A-0044EG: Xcel Energy’s Mountain Energy Project, is a proposed long-term solution to address utility gas service in Grand Lake, Granby, Winter Park, Dillon, Frisco, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Leadville and other surrounding communities—impacting approximately 33,500 Xcel Energy gas customers. The project involves
- New gas utility facilities, such as compressed natural gas (“CNG”) and liquified natural gas (“LNG”);
- Customer energy efficiency improvements
- Alternative electric service and facilities
The central purpose of the project is to avoid the construction of traditional gas utility facilities. Xcel Energy estimates the project cost to be $155 million.
The PUC is actively seeking input from residents, workers, and stakeholders as it reviews this proposal. Your voice can help shape the future of energy and economic development in your community.
